Michael Nzuza is a seasoned employee with 18 years’ experience in the public service, specifically at sub-national level. His illustrious career initially focussed on performance management systems and then later, expanded public works. He has subsequently held senior positions as Director: Community Services since 2001 overseeing functions relating Solid Waste Management; Parks; Social Development and Disaster Management. It was within this realm that his affinity for waste management developed. To date, Michael’s experience has garnered the following credentials as a waste management practitioner.

  • Municipal landfill management;
  • Integrated waste management, with focus on procedure for landfill location, development of related transport routes, vehicles and containers needs;
  • Model development for primary selection of municipal waste;
  • Drafting of bylaws on waste management;
  • Development Integrated waste management strategies and plans;
  • Team leading, management and coordination skills;
  • Project cycle and sector support programmes; and
  • Public and private sector stakeholder capacity building in the planning and implementation of waste management.

The City of uMhlathuze, has acclaimed national recognition under Michael’s stewardship, earning the Municipality a finalist in the Greenest City Competition in 2019. He further received a prolific award from the Department of Environmental Affairs for best Service Delivery in Waste management in 2019. Michael Nzuza is strategically poised to advance waste management to greater levels of excellence with his passion for waste management; dedication to service delivery and being an inspiring leader to his committed team.
